Theme Thursday: Leaves or Trees

Today I am linking up with Cari for Theme Thursday. I was happy that the subject was trees since yesterday I started walking again and took my favorite trail.

Although Cari and many of the other bloggers linking up actually know something about photography and are quite talented, they have kindly allowed us wanna-be’s to participate.  I admit that I love photography and I’ve always had an interest in it but I’ve never gotten beyond a point and shoot camera. I’ve wanted to buy a big girl camera but always hesitate because I seriously know nothing about apertures and ISO’s and UFO’s and macro something or other. I’m lost.

However, Cari lit a fire under my butt and  I dug out my old Canon Power Shot SD4000 and was determined to switch out of auto and fiddle a little with manual mode.  Don’t judge. Baby steps, people.

Okay, the first three shots were taken with my iphone. These are the actual photos. No filters used.

Now this is the part when I was trying to find the macro setting on the camera, which was a comedy act in itself. I finally found the little tulip icon and tried to get a couple of shots of the branches.

If you look closely, you can see spider web strands to the right.

The branch is not centered on this one but I liked the contrast of the large blurred tree in the back.

I must admit that playing around with the camera was fun and it made me want to go find those tutorials Cari mentioned so I could learn some of the basic terminology. Who knew that raw had nothing to do with red meat? 😉

Thanks again to Cari for hosting. I can’t wait to see everyone’s take on the theme!

Your pictures are always -ALWAYS- breathtaking. Seriously, I do not believe such a gorgeous place actually exists on earth.

And I love your first macro shot here- how the branch in focus stretches all the way across the frame and sort of cuts the picture into a sharp and a soft section.

    Can’t wait to see more.
Thanks for linking up. Next week- be there.

Thanks, Cari. Seriously. I’ve already got your comment about the sharp and soft sections stored in my head for future reference. Since so many people are asking where I live I’m going to make a post next week with the top places you should visit if you come to the Monterey Peninsula, CA! I’ll add photos I’ve taken here and dedicate it to you. 😉

I love the close-ups. Those are some incredible trees! Now, I am off to google this RAW thing that is NOT a diet.

Hi Jessica, Thanks for stopping by! The trees are truly breathtaking! It is fun to learn when I have such pretty subject matter! It makes it kinda hard not really knowing what I’m doing but I am slooooowly learning. 😉

Love the pictures!! I think I know less about picture taking than you do. However, I am not sure I will ever get beyond the point and shoot camera. Manual cameras scare me!

The second one from the top looks like a photo from a resort ad! 🙂 I love playing around with the macro setting on my camera, even if most of them don’t turn out they way i think they will. It is fun to experiment!

    • bobbi says:

Thanks for stopping by, Cathy. I’m glad you liked it. I’m learning how fun it is to experiment only now I REALLY want to get a “real” camera. But I think I need to practice more on my cheap one first. Not to mention needing to save up for one. 😉

  • Lisa G says:

AHH!! The second from the bottom is GLORIOUS!!! But what are these trees you are taking pictures from?? Do you live on the most exotic island in the world or something? Beautiful!! Talent-shmalent – yours are my favorites of the bunch!!!

    • bobbi says:

Hi Lisa, You made me laugh and blush. LOL. Thanks you so much. I live in California, along the central coast. It is very foresty but you also have the ocean so it makes for a perfect combo. I’m going to make a post next week with the top places you should visit if you come to the Monterey Peninsula! I’ll add photos I’ve taken here. Then you can come and see it for yourself. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for the beautiful photos and the funnies. UFOs! Ha!

    • bobbi says:

Hi Micaela, Thanks for stopping by! I’m glad you enjoyed it! I live in California, right in the middle along the coast. I was laughing at how many people were asking where I live. I’m going to make a post next week with the top places you should visit if you come to the Monterey Peninsula! I’ll add photos I’ve taken there. 🙂
