A note from Bobbi: Although Brian and I may have differing beliefs in aspects of the faith from the Sears (Dr. Sears is a Christian, while we are Catholic Christians), we have found that the Sears' style of birthing, child care, and parenting most closely resembles our own, as well as that of our family pediatrician. Since many new and expecting Catholic moms have asked for information on these topics, I've posted it here for your convenience. I hope it helps!
Ask Dr. Sears.com is the website well-known pediatrician Dr. William Sears, his wife Martha Sears, RN, and their sons Jim and Robert, also pediatricians.
Dr. Sears has been practicing pediatric medicine for over 30 years. He is the father of eight children and author of over 30 books on childcare. He states that the website is "dedicated to the people who have taught us the most about pediatric care: our children - James, Robert, Peter, Hayden, Erin, Matthew, Stephen and Lauren."
Martha Sears is the mother of eight children (including a son with Down Syndrome and an adopted daughter), a registered nurse, a childbirth educator, a La Leche League leader, and a breast feeding consultant. She is the co-author of nine parenting books and refers to herself as a "professional mother". Her favorite quip when someone voices their concern about her having eight children in an already populated world is: "The world needs my children."
Working with Bill and Martha are their tow sons James M. Sears, MD (the eldest) and Robert W. Sears, MD (their second son). Dr. Jim has two children, Lea (9) and Jonathan (5). Dr. Jim volunteers his time talking with Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) groups about the importance of family nutrition. Dr. Bob has three boys, Andrew (10), Alex (7), and Joshua (1). Dr. Bob accompanies a group of doctors, nurses, and other volunteers into Mexico every month to provide medical care to a small village.
