Catholic AudioTape Sets

Fathers, Faith and Family
By Jeff Cavins, Michael O'Brien, Ken Hensley & Jim Stenson

I first of all want to thank Terry Barber and St. Joseph Communications for putting together this wonderful series for husbands and fathers. Jeff Cavins, author Michael O'Brien, Ken Hensley and Jim Stenson give incredible talks on Catholic family life.

Jeff Cavins speaks about sacrifice within the family. Michael O' Brien offers his views on the Catholic family and the culture. Ken Hensley speaks about strategies to help your children remain Catholic and Jim Stenson speaks directly to fathers, offering concrete advice on how to be a successful parent. This is a great series and I am sure it will contribute to the spiritual renewal of the Catholic family. I pray that St. Joseph's will produce more series on fatherhood and the family. Available through St. Joseph Communications. (Brian)

Fire and Sword: The Crusades, Inquisition, Reformation
By Matthew Arnold

Produced by St. Joseph Communications, Matthew Arnold takes an in-depth look at the Middle Ages. Using modern scholarship, he is able to shed light on a period of history that has been otherwise grossly misrepresented by the modern media and gravely misunderstood by the vast majority of Catholics as well as Protestant Christians.

Starting with the Crusades, Mr. Arnold sheds light on how the crusades started, why they started and the positive influence they had on the spirituality of the Middle Ages. Next Mr. Arnold tackles the Inquisition. Using modern scholarship he separates fact from fiction and unveils the "real" Inquisition, which will surprise many. Lastly, he takes a look at the Reformation. He discusses Luther, Zwingli, Calvin, Knox and their theology, showing that the reformation was truly a "deformation" of Christendom. I highly recommend this tape series! Available through St. Joseph Communications. (Brian)

Islam Exposed - The Crescent in the Light of the Cross
By Tim Staples

This four-part tape set, produced by St. Joseph's Communications and recorded by apologist Tim Staples, is outstanding! Recorded after the horrific events of 9/11, in this series Tim Staples tackles Islam, the prophet Muhammad, and the Koran. He systematically reveals historical truths that question Islam's claims to be a religion of peace and quotes many passages from the Koran that challenges its credibility as a divinely inspired book. If you want to learn more about Islam from a Catholic perspective and receive tools to defend the faith against Islam, this tape set is a must! Available through St. Joseph Communications. (Brian)

The Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary
Fr. John Corapi

During a recent spiritual conference given by Fr. John Corapi, I purchased a tape set he made on the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. In the tape set Fr. Corapi gives a down to earth, simple, yet very orthodox, reflection on the Luminous Mysteries.

Fr. Corapi's love for and confidence in the Rosary as a great spiritual weapon is both inspiring and awesome. If you desire to learn more about the Rosary and the new Luminous Mysteries or just need a little encouragement to be faithful to the daily recitation of the Rosary, I highly recommend this tape series. You wont be disappointed. You can purchase this tape series by calling 1-888-800-7084 or through his website Father Corapi.com. (Brian)

St. Ignatius of Loyola - Rules of Thinking with the Church
By Fr. Patrick Brannan S.J.

I recently purchased a tape set from St. Joseph's Communications entitled "St. Ignatius of Loyola - Rules of Thinking with the Church". Fr. Patrick Brannan S.J. discusses eighteen points found in St. Ignatius of Loyola's spiritual exercises that deal with one's approach to the Church and its teachings, as well as specific points of doctrine.

Outside of getting a bit theological on several points, Fr. Brannan keeps things basic, practical and easy to understand. What I found to be most interesting and enlightening was how adamant St. Ignatius was about submitting to and accepting Church teaching. Whether he liked a particular teaching or not, whether he liked a particular dogma or not, St. Ignatius always conformed his mind to the teaching, dogma and or ruling of the Church. There was no room for dissent. Ignatius recognized the Church as his Mother and the instrument of his salvation. I highly recommend this tape trying to do the same. Available through St. Joseph Communications. (Brian)

The Trouble with Harry
By Matthew Arnold

This three cassette tape (or 3 CD's) series produced by St. Joseph's Communications and recorded by Matthew Arnold tackles the Harry Potter phenomenon. Matthew Arnold not only looks at the Harry Potter book series but also discusses the Harry Potter movie as well as the book series. He begins his series by presenting the thoughts and opinions about Harry Potter from well-known Catholic and Protestant thinkers. He does an excellent job showing the difference between the Harry Potter series and other popular fantasy novels such as the Lord of the Rings and the Chronicles of Narnia series.

Matthew Arnold also speaks a little about his own experiences in the occult and reveals how the Harry Potter books have tracings of the occult in them. He points out how the Harry Potter books, in many ways, lack important lessons that can teach children about virtue.

With all the hype around Harry Potter, if you want a Catholic perspective on the novels, then Matthew Arnold's "The Trouble with Harry" is the tape set for you! Available through St. Joseph Communications. (Brian)
