I had heard of Crisis Magazine previously but I never read an issue until my sister started working for the magazine awhile ago. Now I wish I hadn't waited so long. The official mission statement of Crisis is "to interpret and shape the direction of contemporary culture from a standpoint of Catholic tradition. We are dedicated to the proposition that the crisis of modernity can be answered by a Christian humanism rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church. We bring the wisdom of the Catholic tradition into direct dialogue with contemporary politics and culture." To put it simply, it explores culture, politics and current events from a Catholic perspective. The articles are excellent - intelligent and informative but not so "intellectual" that it is over my head. One year, 10 issues for $24.97. Family Foundations

Family Foundations is the magazine of the Couple to Couple League International, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to building healthy families through Natural Family Planning. The magazine has recently been redesigned to look less like a newsletter and more like a "real" magazine with a full-colored cover. FF is included in the CCL membership, and it contains excellent articles and columns about married and family life. One year membership, which includes the subscription, is $29.00. This Rock

I began reading This Rock years ago when I first came back to the faith. Some of the articles were a bit stuffy for me and I had a hard time understanding them but I kept plugging away. After a few years, This Rock was revamped and became much more user friendly. They have excellent articles covering apologetics and the faith as well as some awesome conversion stories. Karl (Keating) may not be as flashy as some, but he has an incredible dry wit and keen observation. I've long been a fan of Catholic Answers (and had the privilege of working there in '99) and This Rock magazine is another great work they are accomplishing! One year, 10 issues for $39.95.
