The world of a widow, who is engaged to a straight-laced lawyer, is turned upside down when she starts to fall for a unconventional, tell-it-like-it-is guy. (Along with loving the movie, I think the little boy Timmy is classic! -Bobbi)

Starring Loretta Young and Celeste Holm
Two nuns set out to build a children's hospital despite numerous obstacles. And their example of faith and trust in Divine Providence change a few hearts along the way. (Hard to believe that Hollywood once made movies like these! A personal favorite. -Brian)

Starring Cary Grant and Loretta Young
An angel intervenes into the life of a bisphop who is struggling to build a new cathedral and keep his family together. (We saw this for the first time just this month and we both loved the way the birth of Christ was emphasized. We also noted that it was the only movie we ever saw where Cary Grant did not get the girl in the end! -Brian)

Starring Barbara Stanwyck and Dennis Morgan
To continue her career, Stanwyck must pretend to be a happily married Martha Stewart-type to help a lonely soldier. Not a problem, until she starts falling for the soldier!

White Christmas (1954) Musical
Starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye
Two army buddies pair up as a song-and-dance team and together they and two pretty sisters help out a retired army general who is in finacial trouble. As a side story, the hard-nosed one of the two guys begins to fall in love with the equally hard-nosed sister. (Unlike Holiday Inn, I always fast-forward some of the musical numbers but I am a sucker for the great love story between the characters played by Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. -Bobbi)

Remember the Night (1940) Drama
Starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray
An assistant DA feels sorry for a pretty but feisty shoplifter who must spend the holidays in jail, so he bails her out and lets her spend Christmas with him and his family. (Warning: although the ending is not sad per se, don't expect a sugary sweet happy one.-Bobbi)

Bachelor Mother (1939) B&W Romantic Comedy
Starring Ginger Rogers and David Niven
A single shopkeeper is mistakenly believed to be the mother of an orphaned baby. She is befriended by her employer's son who offers nothing more than financial help and "scientific advice" about caring for a newborn, until he starts to fall for her. (A personal favorite any time of the year. -Bobbi)

The story of four sisters during the Civil War. (Technically not a Christmas movie, nor necessarily the best version of Little Women but I just love the Christmas spirit displayed, especially towards Marmee. -Bobbi)

Starring Maureen O'Hara and John Payne
A jolly old man is hired to play a department store Santa but he raises more than a few eyebrows when he claims that he actually IS Santa. (Although we're not very into the "santa" aspect of Christmas, this is still a delightful holiday movie. -Bobbi)
