Thoughts on the Most Holy Rosary

by Brian

To put it simply, I love the Rosary! To me the Rosary is the most beautiful prayer Heaven could have given us. It is the prayer of the Gospel and, as many saints have said, a spiritual weapon.

The Rosary has defeated heretics such as the Albigensians and saved Europe in the sixteenth century from Muslim invasion. The Rosary has been the cause of countless conversions and has helped people remain faithful to God and the Church in the most trying of circumstances.

Attached to the recitation of the Rosary are fifteen promises. Our Lady promises that who ever recites the Rosary will: receive signal graces, obtain her protection, be a powerful armor against hell, cause virtue and good works to flourish, not perish, never be conquered by misfortune, not die without the Sacraments, receive the light of God, be delivered from purgatory, will obtain all they ask of her, merit a high degree of glory in Heaven, be aided by her if the propagate the rosary, have for intercessors the entire celestial court, be considered her sons, receive the sign of predestination.

Through the recitation of the Rosary we tell both Our Lord and Lady that we love them and desire to serve them. We also, as St. Louis Marie de Montfort wrote, make a spiritual bouquet of roses for them. What could be more beautiful?

There is a long list of Rosary apostles. Three that come to mind are St. Padre Pio, Bl. Bartolo Longo and St. Louis Marie de Montfort. All three, through their witness, example and preaching encouraged others to pray the Rosary. In fact, before St. Padre Pio died he told his followers to "always pray the Rosary".

If anyone ever asked me how to pray I would hand them a Rosary, for to pray the Rosary is to pray the Gospel. It is the simplest of prayers and yet the most profound.

The Church has dedicated the month of October to the Holy Rosary. Let us ask Our Lady to help each one of us pray the Rosary with much fervor, devotion and love.

God bless!
